It’s the season of love, and this month I’d like to take the opportunity to share some of the fabulous features I adore most about my city. Durham has always been near and dear to my heart, and that’s one of the
reasons I’m so passionate about practicing real estate here. Sharing my hometown and the way it’s flourished in the past decade, while still maintaining so much historic charm, makes my job that much better!

Durham is not only a place “where great things happen,” but it’s also a place that embraces anyone and everyone who wants to bring their own love to the city. Known as a bastion of cultural diversity, this city attracts folks who take pride in sharing their rich heritage and projecting it onto our Tobacco Road landscape with everything from murals and music to events and local establishments.
One of our most concentrated locales for cultural diversity is, of course, the breathtaking campus of Duke University. Its campus is full of spectacular spots to bring your Valentine for a uniquely Durham-themed date! Some of my favorite places to visit at Duke are the Nasher Museum of Art, the Lemur Center, and of
course, Cameron Indoor Stadium where the Cameron Crazies are gearing up for March Madness. Don’t miss the beautiful new Student Wellness Center on campus, complete with its own meditation garden and baby grand piano! Duke Chapel and Duke Gardens are also some of the most romantic proposal spots you could imagine if you’re planning to pop the question!

If you’re on the hunt for an ideal dining venue to take your Valentine, we have no shortage of world-class options! Durham has been a culinary destination and in recent years, the nation has taken notice. Durham has been hailed the Tastiest Town in the South by Southern Living magazine and America’s Foodiest Small Town by Bon Appétit. Many local chefs and restaurateurs, including Matthew Kelly of Mateo and Vin Rouge, and Phoebe Lawless of Scratch, have been nominated for
major awards like the James Beard. We have some incredible atmospheres, as well, to go along with our craveable cuisine! I’m partial to the intimate speakeasy vibes at Bar Virgile, the airy and artful aesthetic of 21c’s Counting House, and the stunning cityscape views of the Durham Hotel rooftop!

Top off any great date night with a show at our top-ranked Durham Performing Arts Center where ultra-romantic musician Diana Krall will be performing this Saturday. For a less traditional approach, venture over to the dinosaur trail at the Museum of Life + Science or a stroll around a scenic spot like the Eno River State Park or the American Tobacco Campus. Want to ensure that your date falls in love with you as much as they do the city? Grab a sweet gift for them from one of our great local shops. My favorite staples are Chet Miller and Morgan Imports, but we’ve got some new stores on the block that are reinventing the way Durham does
gifting! Everyday Magic has just the thing to bewitch your beloved from crystals and singing bowls to tarot cards and incense, and just next door, The Zen Succulent is breathing life into Durham with their passion for plants. Try a terrarium with tillandsia air plants for a tropical treat your date will treasure.

We know wherever you and your loved one explore this Valentine season, your affection for our beautiful Bull City will only be elevated!
