Great Home Projects to Tackle While You're At Home | Lisa Ellis & Company Real Estate Team in Durham, NC

Whether you’re getting your home ready for a move later this year, or just ready to spruce up your place, one silver lining of being home is some extra time to work on some home projects and updates!

Of course, now is not the time to rush to the store, so we’re sharing some home improvement projects where you can find most tools and items at home. We’ve also shared the easiest updates to tackle, but we always recommend that if you’re totally unsure about what you’re doing, it’s best to leave it to a professional!

Rearrange and Re-imagine Your Space

While big renovations aren’t in the cards, you can still improve upon a certain space by rearranging furniture or decor. A new living room arrangement can refresh your home and even re-organizing and re-arranging a book shelf can bring new energy to a room. Need some inspiration? Search Pinterest or Instagram for some creative ideas!

Spring Cleaning

How long has it been since you’ve dusted the tops of shelves? Break out the duster or microfiber cloth to capture dust or debris that’s been lingering in hard to reach places. It’s also a great time to clean up your base boards and replace vent filters.

Lighting

Has your bathroom vanity been missing a few bulbs? Now is a great time to go through your home and replace old bulbs and to evaluate the spots in your home that might need some additional lighting. If you have the supplies, you could even work on cabinet lighting with press on lights or light strips. Don’t forget about natural light too – try swapping out curtains or re-arranging furniture to maximize natural light.

Curb Appeal

Most of us have been inside and our lawns and backyard spaces have been far from loved, so now is the perfect opportunity to make sure the grass is mowed and lawn debris is collected. And if you’re looking to really spruce it up, try creating your own planter box or creating your own house number plate.

Minor Paint Jobs & Repairs

If you’re handy enough to complete minor updates without creating a disaster, we applaud you and say go for it! New paint can totally change the feel of a room and if you know how to repair small cracks and broken home goods, then its worth taking the time to get those fixed.
