The Magic That the Month of May Brings

May we have your attention, please? We’d like to take a moment to acknowledge all of the magic that the month of May brings us this year, including longer days, lots of sunshine and temperatures that have hit a sweet spot. Patios are open, picnics are unpacking, and the calendar is packed with major events guaranteed to bring major fun throughout the Triangle!

Let’s begin with this week, shall we? On Friday, local artist Nate Sheaffer‘s ”Light the Woods with Sound” will bring a first-of-its-kind event to Raleigh’s Dix Park. Together artists and musicians will come together to create sound and light using 384 neon light tubes hanging from the beautiful oak trees for this spectacular glowing installation. This weekend will also bring the first ever Triangle Craft Beer Fest to Cary’s WakeMed Soccer Park. This event will pull together 50 of the area’s favorite breweries for an all-day event with unlimited samplings of special one-off brew made just for the event!

Continue your local fare fun into next Monday with Chefs for Change at the Rickhouse in Durham. Your evening of fine dining will be guided by chef Scott Howell of Nana’s, with proceeds from the event benefiting Families Moving Forward, a non-profit organization supporting families experiencing homelessness.

Later that week, Durham will heat up with some major events you won’t want to miss! Year three of Moogfest will boast a lineup of the most captivating international innovators in the electronic music sphere the 17th-20th. This festival is filled with daytime panels, workshops, and evening concerts. Then on the 19th, make time for both the Durham Blues & Brews Festival and the Bimbé Cultural Arts Festival, which celebrates African and African American history, culture, arts and traditions through dance, music, cuisine and the arts. Over in downtown Raleigh that weekend, Artsplosure has big plans for its 39th annual event. This festival brings together more than 170 artists and craftspeople for a three-day celebration that will include plenty of live music and performance art alongside its walking tour and Kidsplosure events which will include crafts, activities, storytellers, a fossil dig and more!

Memorial Day weekend will have something for everyone with incredible offerings in every corner of the Triangle. Take your pick from baseball, hot air balloons, or anime! Cheer on the home team Blue Devils at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park when the ACC Baseball Championship’s FanFest steps up to the plate on the 26th. FanFest is a family-friendly, free event featuring live music, interactive games, student-athlete autographs, giveaways, sampling and more!
